Introduction

Remodeling a house can be the most stressful or fun activity that every homeowner would have to live through at some point. Whether it is renovating a new house, you are about to move to or an older one that you still live in, you will need to have a good financial plan and a precise picture of exactly what you want. After considering the two factors, you will need to do your research on the cost of materials you will require and find yourself an experienced remodeler, preferably one that has done it for years and charges within the budget.

Kitchen Remodeling

There are steps to follow when doing a remodeling and I will provide them from the first to the last:

The first step should be tearing down the walls and kitchen cabinets. Visit the local stores with your contractor who should advise you on what materials are durable. Ask the contractor to build on what is already there if you do not intend to have a full remodel to save costs.

Replace outdated kitchen plumbing with new ones since the walls are already open. Replace shutoff valves, add new gas lines, put a clean out if there was none and all plumbing under the sink if it is galvanized.

Replace electrical and install kitchen lighting that is under the cabinet if you like, overhead lighting and then consider using dimmer switches either for some or all lighting.

Then hang the kitchen drywall ( you can do this yourself to save costs)

Paint the walls and ceiling in a color that you prefer. You can use bright colors to warm the room, or you can mix the colors.

Install the kitchen flooring and baseboards. Again this should be a reflection of what you want your kitchen to be.

Install the cabinets of your choice, and they should be put at the right height for easy access.

Install templates, order kitchen countertops and install the kitchen backsplash too.

Finally, install all the appliances and arrange your kitchen equipment.

Bathroom Remodeling

Gradual remodeling of a bathroom is essential as it saves time and makes it easy tracking your progress and keeping the finances in check:

The first step is always the demolition process. Start with draining the toilet to avoid any unpleasant smells, and then you can take down the wall covering then break down the tiles if they need replacing. Then finally, the sinks, mirrors, curtains and anything else you plan to replace.

Install the shower in whatever design you would like it to be. It could be a shower pan or tub basin. Whatever fits your décor.

Then adjustments should be made to accommodate the new features you plan to have like cabinets.

Lay down your new fancy tiles that you picked.

Hang the drywall and paint the color that will correctly reflect the décor you have planned. This is the point where lighting can be installed.

Vanity and other niceties like sinks, mirrors, and cabinets should be installed at this point.

Then you can do the final touches like cleaning and place all the soaps, curtains and filling the cabinets.
