Cabinets are highly susceptible to stains, dirt, and splatters, which makes cleaning them a hassle for most homeowners. Dirty cabinets are an eyesore in the kitchen, and that is why it is critical to select cabinets that are low maintenance when you decide to remodel your kitchen. NV Kitchen and Bath has identified some of the ways you can ensure that you get cabinets that are low on maintenance. Low-maintenance cabinets will save you time, effort, and the money you will spend on different cleaning products.
The first tip is to select cabinets whose doors have minimum detail. Slab and shaker-style door fronts have less nooks and crannies that are usually a magnet for dirt and dust. This means that you will spend less time scrubbing the doors of your cabinets. This is unlike raised panel cabinet doors that have small crevices that are a hotbed for dirt and dust particles. If you still want cabinet doors that have additional details, then it is recommended that you select a paint or stain that has a glaze. The glaze will help hide the dirt and dust that usually collect on such doors and it fills the corners and cracks of the doors much better.
Secondly, select cabinets that have flush ends instead of matching ends. Flush ends are made of plywood and match the color of your cabinets. Cleaning them is much easier as all you have to do is swipe over them with a piece of cloth. Matching ends will bring elegance to the kitchen but they have the same maintenance issues as the raised-panel doors.
Lastly, avoid trimmings on your cabinets because they create more cleaning problems. Designer details such as light rail molding and corbels bring more character to the kitchen but also increase the surface area to be cleaned. There are some decorative touches you can have that require less maintenance. These include colorful paint on the cabinets, or eccentric lighting to remove the focus from the less-decorative cabinets selected.
